New farmer, wants to grow Chestnuts and Chickens in Lane County

?

Land Seeker Description

I want to have and orchard/nursery with fruit and nut trees, especially Chestnut. I would also like to have chickens, and possibly other livestock. Eventually I’d like to make value-added items from my produce. Permaculture and sustainability would be key.

What features of the property are essential?

Probably water rights, a barn, electricity, and suitable organic land.

Describe your farming experience

I've had a community garden plot for maybe 20 years. I have also worked in landscaping, and had an interest in plants and gardening my whole life. I have been grafting trees for a few years. I worked at Trillium Farm for a summer; an intentional community.

Are you currently farming?

No

What are your short term goals for the land

Planting grafted trees. Growing annual and seasonal crops. Aquiring and producing chickens and other livestock. Selling plants, cuttings, and trees, as well as livestock and produce.

What are your long term goals

Producing wood by means of coppicing, for different uses. Producing value-added items from produce, making "products".

Describe your housing needs

I have an rv, but it needs a little work. I figured if I can get it in a barn, I can restore it.
I'm interested in natural/sustainable building.

What will you do as a farmer to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone on your farm and in your community?

I will welcome all ideas and input on how to incorperate the local community.
