My wife Heather and I have owned and operated Springtail Farm since 2011. We began as an annual row crop operation, and in 2018 we began a transition into growing small fruit. We have been working with Sturms berry farm and El Tio farm to learn the ins and outs of growing berries, and we completed a 5 year program with Headwaters Incubator Program (2015-2019).
Water, access to hook up water. Dont want to overhead water.
I started farming in Joseph Oregon, in 2007, where I interned with Beth Gibans of Backyard Gardens. From there, I started farming on 17 acres of hayfield in Eagle Creek, (not the gorge, near Estacada). Farmed there a couple years, 2008-2009, then did the urban farm thing a couple years. In 2011, went back out to Eagle Creek and farmed just an acre of row crops, met Heather, and started Springtail Farm. The next 3 years we farmed a small plot in Damascus at Heathers parents, doing a CSA and internet sales and small farmer markets. In 2015 we entered the HIP program, and have been farming 1-3 acres there the last 5 years.
To grow strawberries, upick and we pick.
To find some long term land to lease for raspberries, blackberries, other small fruit, no blueberries! Maybe flowers and a handful of vegetable crops, asparagus, we have moved into more of an interest with perennials.
We have a home in Portland
