Looking for work to rent or creative solution for housing in washington or yamhill county

Land Seeker Description

My name is Adam Hernandez, am 25 years old, and love the idea and application of sustainable practices regarding farming and lifestyle. Living in Oregon for my undergraduate years and participating in a outdoor school program hosted on the coast at Camp Westwind initially sparked my interest in this way of life. Currently I’m in St. Louis, Missouri finishing up my doctor of chiropractic degree. My plans are to be back in Oregon around late August or early September of 2019.

My big goal in being apart of this environment is to become a steward of the land. I am hoping this experience will teach me how to grow and nurture with the land, while providing for myself in sustainable ways. I can assist with physical labor such as preparing fields, planting, harvesting, and other activities. If there are livestock or farm animals I would also be excited to help with them. Learning how to properly install and maintain an irrigation system is a goal of mine as well. How to tell the soil has the proper microbes and bacteria, as well as the proper amount of needed elements, to produce the best environment for crops.

What features of the property are essential?

place to live with kitchen
access to running water

Describe your farming experience

I have no experience with managing a farm, I have been helping out at a local farm for the last 3 months. I have grown and harvested simple veggies such as sugar snap peas, broccoli, kale, and others on my own. These projects were simple backyard growing experiments. I have attended workshops on pruning fruit trees and organic growing workshops. I have no experience with taking care of live stock.

Are you currently farming?

What are your short term goals for the land

Learn how to effectively utilize the land to make a sustainable living
Learn about different types of crops and what conditions are best for them
Talking about and selling produce at Farmer's Markets

What are your long term goals

Take more responsibility in the operation by managing the farm
Create a communal living system where each individual takes responsibility in farming

Describe your housing needs

Ideally, I would like a place to stay on the farm. This includes running water with a hot water heater, electricity, and a heating system. I will be working in a chiropractic clinic in McMinnville as well as attending networking and social events, so I will have responsibilities elsewhere but that should not be an issue. As for financial matters, I propose that I will be involved in a work-trade/rent scenario. I can assist with your desired tasks and for any work that is not covered, that could be an expense for me to pay to you.
