My Husband and I are entering into the seventh season of our farm business and looking to find land that we can farm on for many years to come. Currently and historically, our farm is/has been located in urban areas making the land cost very expensive and the tenure short. We own .5 acre where we live and farm and lease an additional 4 acres on Powell Butte in East Portland. Our focus is growing specialty cut flowers and foliage, some nursery stock and seed crops. We are both well versed in all the aspects of running a farm, from land management and irrigation, to pests and disease control, to marketing and business administration. We even have our own tractor!
Ideally, we are looking for land with access to water with a long term lease or a lease to own situation. We’d prefer a straight forward transaction of money for land and are not so interested in trading our labor for rent. Having a long term lease will allow us to invest in infrastructure like a hoop house for season extension and plant shrubs and woody ornamentals that capture a high value but take time to get established.
Water access and good water pressure, Loamy soil would be ideal, less than an hour from Portland
We each have over 15 years of experience farming vegetables and flowers using organic methods. Our Farm business is it's 7th year. Leah is full time on the farm. Ryan works off the farm as a gardener for Mcmenamins and also works part time on the farm.
Amend soil as necessary, Plant lots of perennials and shrubs, Erect hoophouses
