Food Forestry on Your Land (Lease-to-Own?) Any Acreage – Farmer with 10+ years experience

?

Land Seeker Description

We are experienced food foresters/herbalists looking for a good land opportunity to do regenerative practices on, with an intention to eventually own land and have a homestead. We have a farm in SE Portland that we are happy to share with you if you want to come look at it. Very flexible in terms of acreage and location, but ideally not more than an hour away from Portland. We are not opposed to a lease/trade for someone looking to have their land food forested. 10+ years of experience in the regenerative agriculture field, creating food forests, teaching, growing, selling produce, etc.

What features of the property are essential?

Beyond water and electricity, we are relatively flexible and willing to discuss different opportunities.

Describe your farming experience

Over 10 years experience growing produce, mixed orchard crops in a food forest setting. Initially on 8 acres in Boring, OR and currently (for the last 5 years) in the Portland area. Studied under Toby Hemenway, author of Gaia's Garden (best-selling permaculture book of all time). Was awarded a long-term lease from the Bureau of Sustainability in Portland in 2016 because of this unique form of regenerative agriculture as part of their climate-action plan.

Are you currently farming?

Yes

What are your short term goals for the land

Grow food, medicine, and propagation material in a complex agroforestry system, designed to regenerate the land. There are many ways to doing this depending on the needs of the land owner, the type of business deal, etc. In short, our practices would benefit the land whether we stay long-term or not.

What are your long term goals

In extension to the short-term plans, developing a homestead which we can grow on as well as make a living from. Our long-term plans are more so family-oriented.

Describe your housing needs

2-bedroom is ideal, if not more spacious. We have a tiny-house if there is no house available, although the long-term goal would be to build a house if that is the case.
