First time farmer
I am wanting to start off with sheep, chickens, several vegetables.
Water rights and some structures for the animals.
I started working in the fields at 13 picking strawberries. Next year was blueberries. Then blackberries, then cherries. By the time I was 18 I was working in several nurseries around salem. I’ve done just about everything there is to do on a nursery except for planting. I have also taken some soil science classes during college and am knowledgeable in that area.
Priority number one would be getting the land ready to go. Take soil samples to see what I am working with. Also study the vegetation in the area. I would like to have 1/3 of an acre dedicated to growing elephant garlic. I have a two year plan on that subject. I also would like to raise sheep the first few years to get familiar with raising animals. I would also like to have a few cattle just for learning purposes as well. All livestock would be on a rotational grazing plan to optimize feeding and fertilization from poop.
Long term would be to grow fruit trees, raise cattle, raise hogs, really fine tune everything to ensure sustainable operation.
I have a family of 4 plus my dog and we are planning on having more children. The bigger the better but that isn’t a priority as of now. Getting started farming is priority.
Welcome them with open arms! I do not discriminate against any fellow human beings. I see and respect all humans as one race with amazingly different experiences and personalities. I think we can all learn from others and by welcoming all, the opportunities of learning from others is infinite.
To contact a land seeker, you must first create a land listing and have it approved by our staff. Thank you.
