Farming Family Seeks 5+ Acres in the Willamette Valley for Pastured Livestock Operation

?

Land Seeker Description

We are a family of 5 with children ages 2, 4, and 7 looking for a farm to steward somewhere in the Willamette Valley area. We farmed 19 acres in Texas for several years where we had a large non-certified organic garden and a business raising pastured laying hens, broiler chickens, ducks, geese, guinea fowl, pigs (GOS, kunekune, and IPPs), and registered Dexter cattle. We loved farming and including our little ones in the daily tasks! We relocated to Oregon as we have always loved it here and consider it to be a much better place to farm and raise our children, who especially love all the forests and rivers here. We look forward to continuing to care for land, cultivate quality soil, and provide good lives to the animals we raise.

What features of the property are essential?

We would need water, a barn structure, room to rotationally graze livestock, and decent soil (class 1 or 2) in at least part of the property for cultivation. We are familiar with setting systems up from raw land and are able to contribute these skills.

Describe your farming experience

We farmed 19 acres in Texas for several years where we had a large non-certified organic garden and a business raising pastured laying hens, broiler chickens, ducks, geese, guinea fowl, pigs (GOS, kunekune, and IPPs), and registered Dexter cattle. We have experience feeding and caring for animals, planning grazing rotations, designing farm systems, selling/marketing farm products, etc. We also know how to operate machinery such as a tractor/front-loader and have simple construction skills.

Are you currently farming?

No

What are your short term goals for the land

We would have a permaculture-oriented rotational grazing operation set up for pastured livestock production to sell as well as a large and productive food forest and garden.

What are your long term goals

We would have well-established gardens and food forests to provide for a possible CSA along with a thriving pastured livestock production operation. We would also like to incorporate some educational programming for the community.

Describe your housing needs

We need housing with internet access and at least 2 bedrooms and a bathroom to accommodate our family. Could possibly put an RV on a property for a time if no housing is feasible.

What will you do as a farmer to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone on your farm and in your community?

We are raising our little ones always with an eye towards inclusivity of diverse backgrounds and life experiences and shunning discrimination based on racial and ethnic origin, gender identity, sexual orientation, social economic status, or religious belief.
