Family seeking farmland in Jackson County

Land Seeker Description

Hi. My name is Lindsey. I have been a science teacher for the last 10+ years (biology, environmental science, chemistry etc.) and I am incredibly passionate about bioregenerative farming, biodynamic practices and helping being a part of bringing back the local small farm food system into our community. My husband, Mark, is a business and marketing consultant for small businesses. We love southern Oregon and spend most of our free time hiking or camping in the mountains with our 4 kids. Our vision is to get an opportunity to learn/apprentice with a small farm owner long term in order to learn how to start a small family farm (or take over a small farm). We would love the chance to try out all the practices and ideas we have been very passionate about over the last several years and learn from an experienced farmer/rancher through the process. Our dream is to own and operate a small farm with our family  in the Rogue Valley or Applegate area that is in harmony with the surrounding land.

What features of the property are essential?

Land with water rights, housing

Describe your farming experience

Lindsey has several years of backyard gardening experience. She has a B.A in anthropology and a minor in biology and a Masters in STEM Education. She taught in rural Colorado for several years and in Bonanza, Oregon. Most of her teaching career has been in teaching ecology, chemistry, environmental science to farming and rancher students. A lot of her curriculum incorporated field studies, surveys and labs in topics like biodiversity in farming practices, soil and water analysis of the land in the community, and school water restoration projects.
Mark (who is in marketing/copy writing) has a season of organic farming experience at Stahlbush Island Farms.

What are your short term goals for the land

Our vision is to get an opportunity to apprentice with and live on a property so that we can learn as much as we can over a long term process to either take over a small farm or start our own.

The soil type, water available and elevation will determine what will be grown.

What are your long term goals

Our long term plans are to own a small farm that incorporates bioregenerative farming and biodynamic practices.

Describe your housing needs

We currently live in Talent, OR. We are a blended family so our kids (4 elementary age children) live with us for one week and alternate back and fourth with their other parents. We are seeking a house with land.
