Land Seeker Description

My name is Gabby Maine and I work as a Case Manager for individuals with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities in Linn County. I have a beautiful little boy named Timmy who will be 5 years old in March. My husband and I are on our 4th year of backyard gardening and we love getting our hands dirty and watching our hard work pay off.

My husband and I have always dreamed of raising our kiddo on a farm and showing him how to live a more organic and healthy life. It is our hope to begin a commercial farm and be able to sell locally at the Saturday market. Our long term goal would be to have a commercial farm and create a small eatery on the property where people can come and enjoy local farm fresh meals. My husband has been a chef for 13+ years and went to LBCC Culinary school. I also have my bachelors degree in Business Management and have a working knowledge of how to operate a business. With our education and experience as well as eagerness to further our knowledge in growing produce, we are confident in our abilities to manage a property.

My husband currently doesn’t work and has plenty of opportunity to manage the land. My husband and I both have a working knowledge of woodworking, construction  and gardening that we would love to have projects to work on for our land.

It would be a dream come true to find somewhere we could lease or lease to own where we can live the life we’ve longed for.

What features of the property are essential?

I would love to have a workshop or a big enough garage to work on projects. A water well would be great to cut down on costs as well. We would love to have plenty of space to grow a wide range of vegetables, berries, melons, pumpkins and fruit trees.

Describe your farming experience

I have been on a farm and helped my grandparents milk cows, collect eggs and feed the animals. We currently garden in our backyard and grow a variety of berries and vegetables. My husband has also worked on a farm and we know what it takes to be successful.

Are you currently farming?

Yes

What are your short term goals for the land

If we were able to find a place to call a home, short term plans would be to prep the land to grow produce. I would also look for cows to milk and chickens for eggs. My next step would be to open a Saturday market booth where we can sell produce, jams and juices.

What are your long term goals

Depending on the land, I would love to start a youth program to teach gardening and sustainable living. I think technology rules the younger generation too much and it would be great to have a program to show youth how to get back to their roots. I would also like to open an eatery where people can come enjoy a farm fresh meal. I would also make frozen meals that people could purchase to take home.

Describe your housing needs

We are a family of 3 and would need at-least a 3 bedroom home.

What will you do as a farmer to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone on your farm and in your community?

I respect all individuals regardless of their race, gender, culture, disabilities and age. I would ensure a warming environment where everyone felt welcomed.
