My name is Ryan Ericson and I’ve been farming for 5 years now, 2 of which have been in management. I’ve gotten to that point in this career where all I can think about is running my own farm.
Ideally, I’m looking for a place to start out on my own. This would be a lease or partnership situation, as my wife and I do not have a lot of capital. I’d like to stay in naturally grown or organic fruits and veggies but increase the size of my operation. It would be great to have the potential for 5-10 acres under production, but I don’t necessarily need to start there. I’m open to working with folks who are willing to pass on their operation. In fact, I’d love to have a mentor who has owned and operated the farm prior to my arrival. However, this doesn’t have to be the case.
I have tractor and mid-size machinery experience. I like to practise carpentry in the winter months, and I enjoy playing the guitar and singing when I have spare time. That’s me.
A solid well, irrigation rights, small barn or storage structure, electricity and potential housing are all essential to me.
I have two years of farm management experience and 5 years of agricultural experience, with a degree in sustainable development.
I’d like to either work with a retiring farmer who is looking to pass down their operation, or start my own operation. If I was to start my own, I would like to start with roughly 2 acres of production, selling my produce to the farmers market, a CSA, or to commercial outlets, depending on the community and market availability.
In the long term, I’d like to be running a sustainable farm operation, environmentally, socially, and economically. I’d like the farm to be my only job, and to have it provide for my family. Ideally, it would be a farm that I could rotate between veggie production, cover crops, and grazing animals.
My family is a family of 2, almost three. We’re due with our first baby in January of this upcoming year. We have two dogs and two cats and we’d like a home with a minimum of 2 bedrooms and 1 bath.
