We are in the process of remodeling a home in SW Portland which has a large lot. We are offering a portion of the lot for farm use, vegetables, salad greens, herbs and berries. This includes a fenced 1/2 acre, approximately 1/4 acre for row crops with the remaining area dedicated to an access road, a shed structure, washing station and perimeter plantings. The site is open and grassy, no chemicals used, full sun, 13% slope to the east and includes 3 established apple trees. City water and harvested rainwater.  We wish to support a local farmer in production of high quality, organic produce. We are seeking a farmer who utilizes sustainable practices where practical. The soil is mapped by USDA Web Soil Survey as Cascade Urban Land Complex, which is a silt loam, somewhat poorly drained, slow to rapid runoff, slow permeability, with 20-30″ to fragipan. Farmable area is sloped, so water does not pond here. However, crops and farming methods should take soil properties into account.  Soil has been tested and results will be made available.

With regard to availability, our time line is likely next spring for the farm. Interested parties would need to have some flexibility. We are open to speaking with potential farmers as early as this fall / winter. Thank you for your interest!
