A little about the land.. Situated in Banks, Oregon (Washington County) on 10 acres of mixed grassland/woodlot. The farmable acreage is close to 3 acres but most is on a hillside with various degrees of slope. Most areas are very workable, others would need some terracing or raised beds
There is ample good quality well water available, electricity and a garden shed for your use. I also currently own a roller crimper (This is the technique Rodale Institute uses in their no-till agriculture)
I believe there’s a lot of potential to be had here for growing vegetables, herbs and fruit trees.
The land hasn’t been sprayed in recent history and not likely in over 10 years. (I’ve been living here for 5)
I’m looking for someone (or a group of people) who are looking to lease land for starting a CSA (ideally for the Fall) I had dreams of starting my own CSA here but time and cost have proven to be barriers for the moment. If you’ve got the vision, materials, and farming experience, I have the land and water available to make a small CSA happen.
I’m open to partial barter + fee for the land use, depending on how productive the CSA ends up being.
I am not in the position to offer housing at the moment, but may be open to an RV hookup situation at a later date.
Some things on my wishlist for a land seeker are someone who..
1.) practices organic (or biodynamic) no-spray farming practices
2.) practices no till. is knowledgeable about cover cropping & regenerative farming practices.
3.) water conservation practices (ie drip irrigation, water catchment)
4.) at least 3+ years of experience working on a farm, orchard, or homestead (either production level or small scale CSA OK.)
5.) responsible, reliable, accountable
6.) a good communicator
7.) has their own mode of transportation and housing
8.) has much of their own equipment, although you are welcome to use any of mine, mostly basic hand tools and a roller crimper.
10.) loves and respects the soil microbiome and places a value in preserving soil tilth for future generations (see #2) 🙂
If this place seems aligned with your vision, values, and goals please reach out and let me know. I’m casting a wide net to find a good land seeker match, so the more I know about what you’re looking for the easier it will be for me to narrow down whether we’d be a good fit 🙂
If it seems like we are, you’d be most welcome to come out a take a look at the property
