Grow Your Mushrooms in My Little Forest!

Description

I have two acres of undeveloped forest in Bandon, Oregon. I am looking to lease to a mushroom farmer.

Location: A temperate rainforest, this property is on the southern coast in Bandon, a quiet small town with beautiful beaches. The Coquille River is right across the street from the property.

About the land: The forest floor is like a sponge with layers of organic material. There are old growth trees surrounding the property and several open spaces within that could host a small “farmhand dwelling.” (The only housing allowed on property, zoned as Exclusive Farm Use.) If you don’t want to grow on the forest floor, there is room for a shipping container to grow the crops indoors.  There is a small sunny area along the frontage road to grow a crop of sunflowers or other flowers for cuttings to sell at the local farmers markets. There’s even room enough for a chicken coop with plenty of range to make birds happy to provide fresh eggs.

I will be responsible for ensuring road access, part of the land clearing, and water. With a long-term lease (3-5 years,) I will also put in a septic system.

This mutually supportive partnership will require a person(s) who has 1) a track record of being a good steward to natural environments, taking care not to destroy, disrupt or “junk up” the natural ecosystem of the property, 2) a background in organic farming in general and thorough education on growing mushrooms, 3) strong moral character to live in peace with nature and neighbors, comply with county regulations, and respect the history of the land.

Owner’s Short Term Vision for the Property

Short term is to develop the land for farm use which includes clearing, building road/driveway, outing in a well.

Owner’s Long Term Vision for the Property

Putting in a septic system, possibly solar power. This land will be kept in a trust from which I can earn a passive income to prepare for retirement in 15 years and to build generational wealth to pass on to my children..
