Thank you for taking the time to read my land listing. My name is Jeff Walton, owner of Vernonia Springs. For the last 6 years, I have been building what has now become Vernonia Springs. Vernonia Springs is a private park and campground located 6 miles south of Vernonia, 25 miles north of Beaverton (20-30 minute drive), and 50 miles from Cannon Beach. Vernonia Springs is positioned along the Banks-Vernonia State Trail (it runs through the property). We are finally beginning to enjoy success as a destination special events venue (weddings, group campouts etc.), pedal and ebike rentals, yurt glamping, food cart, retreat center (yoga retreats in particular) and more. My intention has always been to farm a portion of the property, but I have gotten sidetracked establishing and building (literally) the Vernonia Springs side of the business. I am interested in partnering with a person or couple to finally begin putting the farmland to good use. I am motivated to do this because I believe guests who visit the property would enjoy being able to experience a forest farm based on permaculture principles (I received my PDC eight years ago). The farm operation could support our food cart, farm to table events, on-site vegetable stand etc. The .5-3 acre section of the property that I envision farming has a great spot for a trailer or to build a small cabin for someone who wants to work and live on the land. I would be willing to invest financially to some extent to get the farm operation up and running. You would be able to live on the land and farm at no cost (other than the electricity and propane you consume in your living space). We would negotiate a fair trade where you supply the food cart with fresh produce etc. out of the harvest. I believe this is an exciting opportunity for the right person or couple to live a healthy existence on a beautiful piece of land at essentially no cost. Make no mistake, this will not be easy and it will require establishing the entire farm operation and setting up the home site. I would be willing to help as my time allows. This could be a long or short-term opportunity that will be secured with a written agreement and business plan so both parties can feel confident we can make this work. Only folks with some level of successful farming experiencing should contact me. Perfect situation for a young energetic couple. One mellow dog and or cat is OK. Water would be provided for farming and residence. The land that would be farmed is sloped, good sun exposure and has sandy loam soil. We are located at about 700 ft. so there are some challenges to growing, but none that can’t be overcome with proper planning and techniques. I am open to many ideas as long as the land is treated with respect and makes sense as part of an agreed upon vision. I would really like to push the envelope using permaculture principles and make this a very special project that you can be proud of.
