For Lease: 5 acres in Marcola, Or.

Description

Farm is 15 acres with 5 acres of fields suitable for annual crop production.  The entire farm has been certified organic since 2013 and has been used for growing diversified vegetable crops. There are also many acres of grass around fields that would be suitable for grazing. The entire 15 acres are surrounded by a 8′ deer fence. 45,000 square feet of greenhouse space is built.  There are 10 greenhouses measuring 30′ x 150′ each. We had a wind storm last year that tore the plastic on several houses. New plastic is purchased and needing to be installed.

Farm has wash shed with a 24′ x48′ concrete floor located inside a barn. Wash equipment includes several wash tubs, electric stainless steel conveyor, barrel washer, 3, 20 gallon salad spinners, scales, etc. A separate bathroom with running hot water and shower is next to barn. Potable city water is used for wash water.

Field equipment includes a 60hp tractor, 20hp tractor, tiller, disk, mower, salad harvester, delivery van, hand tools for weeding. A 7hp 3 phase water pump is used for irrigation from the Mohawk river, a buried 3 inch mainline borders the field and 2 inch and 3 inch lateral lines are available.

Soil has been amended with lime every one to two years and micronutrients based on soil tests. Soil is a mix of Newberg loam, Chehalis silty clay loam and Cloquato silt loam.

I am looking to lease after cancer sidelined me at the end of 2020. I plan to continue farming about an acre of land myself, separate from land listed as available. I am looking for someone to farm as certified organic or using organic practices. I have 15 years of experience farming organic vegetables and will be available for mentoring and knowledge of local conditions. Over my 7 years on this land the farm averaged a gross return of $40,000 per acre.

My desire is to see the farm and land I have cared for and poured my energy into continue to be used and loved. I see the farm as a valuable resource and want it to be utilized. I also like and value the idea of helping someone that is younger and motivated but doesn’t have the capital required to start an operation like this get going. I would be happy to have the right person stay and continue to farm for as long as they want. I would also be happy to see someone take the money that can be saved by farming here and purchase there own place. I followed the same path, leasing land and slowly building the capital needed to purchase a farm. I had help getting started and want to pass that help to the next generation.

Cost of lease is $550/month for use of land, greenhouses and barn. Use of equipment would be a separate lease dependent on what is needed.
