I know that farmers have to be hard workers and focused to make it work. I have the greatest respect for those who care for the land upon which they live. I’ve never had the opportunity to live and work the land and now that I am old, I can enjoy it vicariously and help to promote the organic movement.
I envision a real working farm, albeit small, more trees, improved barns, people
living/working, making a living on the land, adding to and creating a better place.
I envision fruit trees, blueberries, mushrooms, a small but, for profit, organic farm. I would hope to see it continue as a working sustainable farm and perhaps buying up some of the now chemical laden land nearby and helping it to heal and produce without the use of all those extremely expensive chems and
Our custom farming contractor harvested 1287 acres of commodity soft white wheat in July. We harvested ten acres of soft white organic wheat August 1.
We Summerfallow using no-till & alternating years with a smaller 717 acres, the Organic ten acre field will have a cover crop after it rains this Fall. I may determine to leave it fallow for 2015 crop depending on the moisture availability.
We will be partitioning the ranch into two within the next year due to disagreements on pesticide use and fertilizers, costs, etc.
Our entire spread has 5 good reservoir capability. However on the smaller plot of which I'm trying to rent now, we have water at the barn, nine frost free spigots over an acre and half around the homeplace with good/new pipes and water pump and good pressure.
The main house, a small guest house, a large garage with workbenches and a wood burning stove. . . also an oil stove, not set up. There is also a smallish
1915 reconditioned carriage house.. . good for small animals or smaller equipment. There is a fairly good size root cellar. Also, an old barn with corrals and a large, not used, metal and concrete grain elevator.
1- A 1952 reconditioned Massey Ferguson Tractor and new mower.
2- A Kaboda ATV with ten spot nutrient sprayer for organics. It has trailer to
take it to distant fields.
None that I'm aware of.
