Seeking Paid Long Term Apprentice rev.
Successful 71 y.o. retiring farmer/rancher seeking paid apprentice(s). 100-acre rural forested/9 acres pastured land in S. Oregon Cascades at 2,800 ft. outside of Butte Falls with pristine air and environment. Organic pastured beef main operation. Very established customer base. Pastures have a 10%+ organic matter content and over 30 fenced pastures that make Mob grazing (a’la Joel Salatin) quite sustainable and ecologically sound.
Seek mature, responsible, teachable person/s, and there may be options for your poultry or other business if you have one or have thought of having one. I have wide-ranging and comprehensive experiences in farming and construction, skills that will be warmly shared and taught on an ongoing basis as the jobs come up. You do not have to have prior experience in them. Basic Ag and/or Animal Husbandry experience is necessary but the desire and willingness to learn is the most important part one can bring to any project in life.
Some of the opportunities for broad based skills and learning are: ongoing construction projects, soil/pasture management, agronomy (soil testing, lab readings, soil chemistry/tilth, microbial balancing), large scale composting, animal husbandry, agriculture, irrigation, gardening, forest management, (selective thinning, logging dead/diseased trees), heavy equipment operation, vehicle mechanics, oxy/acetylene gas welding, MIG arc welding, and so much more. (No hemp production.) We try to do it all here. I am looking for a long-term potential partnership with the right person to possibly take over the operation. (Please, short-term interests need not apply). Opportunity of a lifetime. Email firstname.lastname@example.org.
To work with a person who is interested in what is
being done on the property and to see if it is the right
fit for both of us. I feel it is important to develop trust
and a good relationship to build upon a mutual vision
of the land.
Would like to create a partnership and turn over the beef operation to a proven, responsible and mature individual who cares and respects animals and the environment. After the individual establishes a proficiency in that then other aspects of what they would like to do open up.
The pastures are being used for cattle grazing. Chickens and ducks could possibly be added if one had a desire to raise them. Forest products are quite possible.
Water Rights 9 acres.
After 36 years of organic practices the soil has a 10.35% organic matter content in the pastures. The same applies to the 60'x70' garden area. The base structure of the soil is a rich clay loam.
The forested areas have not been slashed and burned for over a half century and have a deep forest humus with a mostly closed canopy of doug and white firs with some pine and madrone. It is a triple canopy forest with ferns.
There is an old barn. A 550 sq. ft. mobile, pond.
Rototiller, hand tools.
After being trained for appropriate use there may be available a backhoe, dump truck, chainsaws, welders, and other equipment.
At 2,800 ft. altitude in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains most crops can grow but a watchful eye to seasonal temperatures require timely frost protection. Gardens and cool tolerant crops like garlic,
onions, brassica, perennials, etc. do okay as well as the garden crops.
To contact a land holder, you must first fill out a land seeker profile and have it approved by our staff. Thank you.
