Our family operates a 30-acre urban farm, which we have owned for 75 years, in south Salem. The farm includes hayfield, pasture, wood lot, a large grove of Oregon White Oaks, a mixed oak-conifer forest with creek, and a menagerie of chickens, goats, llamas, sheep, and horses. We also have 3,000+ SF of gas heated, permanent greenhouse; barn storage and stables; tractor and implements; two wells (with potential for securing commercial water rights); extensive yard and work area, and a shop with tools and equipment. For the right fit, there may be an opportunity for onsite housing in a 3-bedroom caretakers quarters onsite. Being that we are in an urban site and not EFU zoning, we have some limitations on introducing “new” farming activities, but much of our existing activities (livestock, stabling, horticulture, vegetable production) can be continued. We are looking for an experienced team capable of maximizing the potential of this incredible urban location in the mid-Willamette Valley.
Partnership with a successful farmer with an established business and track record.
A successful, sustainable farm that contributes to the vitality of the urban community.
Two wells; potential to acquire water rights.
Jory; some nekia. Soil report available.
Barns; workshop; greenhouses; storage building; office.
Fairly new Kubota tractor; implements; shop with tools.
The farm is zoned RA but several farming activities date back to before City boundaries absorbed the property, and are therefore "grandfathered" uses (animals, limited retail). Any new, high-nuisance farming activities - like a dairy, wedding venue, or agritourism - would not be allowed at this location. There are no restrictions on growing plants. It is an urban location, so activities cannot create a major nuisance to surrounding homes. We have two wells and the potential for acquiring water rights with a demonstrated need such as crop irrigation.
