Florence Farmers Market, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, works to ensure Siuslaw area residents have access to locally grown and produced food while supporting regional farmers, ranchers, fishers and food businesses to enhance the vitality of the community. The market, additionally, provides educational opportunities related to the region’s food system.

The Opportunity

Are you looking for a rewarding way to spend your Tuesday afternoons? The Florence Farmers Market is looking for an energetic and community-minded Market Associate comfortable with a physically active, fast-paced environment to join our team for the 2026 season.

As a Market Associate, you are the friendly face of the market. You will play a vital role in ensuring our equity programs run smoothly, our vendors feel supported, and our shoppers have a positive experience from setup to breakdown.

Your Impact at the Market

  1. Equity Program Support
  • Access & Inclusion: Operate the SNAP card reader and distribute program scrip/tokens to help ensure customers can access fresh food through market programs.
  • Education: Provide clear, simple explanations of our programs to new participants and shoppers.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of program participation and token distribution.

 

  1. Customer & Vendor Engagement
  • Market Ambassador: Help shoppers navigate the market and access information about vendors and programs
  • Operational Support: Assist vendors with basic questions and support the Market Manager in maintaining a welcoming environment.
  1. Physical Operations
  • The Heavy Lifting: Support the physical setup and breakdown of market infrastructure, including tents, signage, and equipment.
  • Site Clean Up: Help with cleanup tasks to ensure we leave our location better than we found it.

Work Schedule & Environment

  • Market Day: Tuesdays (Required on-site 1:15 PM – 7:00 PM).
  • Pre/Post Season: Paid training in May and a season evaluation in October.
  • The Elements: This is an outdoor role. You will be on your feet, moving equipment, and engaging with the public in various weather conditions.

Qualifications

The Must-Haves:

  • People Skills: Excellent customer service and a warm, approachable communication style.
  • Detail-Oriented: Basic math and clerical skills for accurate record-keeping and token distribution.
  • Tech-Ready: Ability to quickly learn how to use card reader hardware and software.
  • Strength: Ability to stand all day, bend frequently, and lift up to 75 lbs for short distances (using handcarts and team-lifting as needed).

The “Bonus” Points:

  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Personal vehicle and the ability to tow a trailer (highly preferred).
