The Edible Landscape Coordinator is a specialty gardening position within the McMenamins Edgefield Grounds Department.

Duties Include But Are Not Limited To:
Managing all aspects of the vegetable garden production and maintenance throughout the course of the year, as well as, maintaining the fruit trees and herb garden on the property. During peak season in the vegetable garden this position will be expected to keep a weekly checklist, as well as, help to supervise the seasonal assistants in the vegetable gardens and property fruit. The Edible Landscape Coordinator also will be expected to assist and participate in all other gardening and landscape maintenance projects on the property.  In conjunction with the above duties this position will also be expected to work effectively with the Black Rabbit Executive Chef, as well as, the Grounds Manager for yearly crop planning to coincide with the kitchen and specialty dinners throughout the year. The Edible Landscape Coordinator will also be responsible coordinating the harvest of the vegetables and herbs and stocking the Black Rabbit Kitchen using sanitary and safety practices.  In general, the Black Rabbit staff will not be allowed to harvest and will be required to seek permission from the E.L.C. or Grounds Manager. On an annual basis, the Edible Landscape Gardener will also be expected to produce a crop production plan for the entire year of the vegetable garden.  Each McMenamins employee will be expected to perform their job in a safe manner and report any safety concerns to Management in a timely manner. All McMenamins employees will also be expected to keep current on all company events, history and products.  Other duties are assigned by Management.

Requirements of the Job:

  • Knowledge and experience of vegetable garden production
  • Knowledge and experience of orchard care and temperate fruit production including Integrated Pest Management, organic fruit care of pest and diseases and pruning
  • Previous experience with tractor and other related power equipment
  • Excellent recordkeeping of crop rotations, soil management, cultural care, harvest yields of fruit and vegetable crops, sowing dates for: greenhouse, direct sow and transplanting
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work well as a team member and independently

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Produce and maintain a high quality edible garden
  • Safely lift and carry heavy objects with a hand truck or the help of another person if necessary
  • Working in all kinds of weather conditions
  • Repetitive physical tasks, including bending, twisting, kneeling, reaching, grasping & lifting
  • Perform fine hand manipulation including handling small and large objects and a variety of garden tools
  • Use of Power tools and equipment including tractor and tiller
  • Use of orchard ladders
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines
  • Ability to communicate clearly and be positive, polite, and cooperative with co-workers, managers, vendors, and customers
