Sweet Union Farm is a diversified vegetable farm in Klamath Falls, OR along the Lost River. We are a production farm and manage 1 acre on a 7.5 acre property using permanent beds, minimal tillage, compost, intercropping and a variety of other biointensive and organic methods. We’re passionate about sustainably growing really good vegetables for our community in this challenging high desert climate. Assistant Farm Manager

Full-time (40 hrs/week*) April-October w/ possible part-time March & November

$16-18 per hour DOE

$200 equipment stipend after 60 days

Access to lots of farm veggies

2 weeks paid PTO

*hours will vary a bit based on the weather/workload. Possibly some weekends.

We are seeking a positive, hard-working and detail-oriented person to assist the farm owner in managing a small-scale diversified vegetable farm with a small crew (likely 2 part-time employees). This position will include field work, crop care, harvest, post-harvest handling as well as some irrigation. There is also plenty of opportunity to pursue individual farm interests as well as get involved in broader community food systems work. An ideal candidate will be passionate about small-scale food production, enjoy physical labor outdoors and be ready to commit to a full season. 

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with farm owner to plan weekly and daily farm tasks
  • Coordinate and oversee field work, irrigation and harvest/wash/pack
  • Supervise and work alongside farm crew in completing daily farm tasks
  • Assist greenhouse manager with propagation and plant sale
  • Create safe, positive and collaborative work environment with eye on efficiency

Qualifications:

  • At least 2 full seasons, full-time on a production vegetable farm.
  • Some management or leadership experience.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to work with others and independently
  • Ability to coordinate tasks efficiently, attention to detail
  • Positive attitude and ability to have fun while being productive.
  • Ability to follow instructions, open to constructive feedback
  • Observant and takes initiative to fill needs or solve problems
  • Strong work ethic, desire to do high quality work
  • Ability to do physical work in all weather, lift 40 pounds repeatedly
  • Provided training, ability to operate hand tools and equipment, including the BCS and tractor.
  • Clean drivers license and reliable vehicle to get to work on time
