Happiness Family Farm is a family-run farm providing fresh, culturally significant produce to underserved communities. Founded in 2016 by Prosper Hezumuryano and Rosata Niyonzima, former refugees from Burundi, we’ve grown from a small community plot to a key supplier for local markets, restaurants, and CSA programs.
We are seeking to purchase 10-20 acres in Multnomah or Washington County with arable soil, water access, and space for storage, greenhouses, and on-site housing. Our goal is to expand production, double revenue by 2026, and increase access to culturally significant food. We welcome creative purchase opportunities and partnerships that support this mission.
-Water access (irrigation systems, private well, or water rights)
-Arable, fertile soil suitable for diverse crop production
-Electricity to support equipment and infrastructure needs
We have over a decade of farming experience rooted in Burundian agricultural traditions. Since 2016, we’ve grown Happiness Family Farm from a community plot to 4 acres of leased land in Gresham and Sauvie Island. Our expertise includes crop planning, soil management, and sustainable growing practices, all aimed at increasing food equity for underserved communities.
Our short-term plans focus on expanding production and increasing revenue.
Investments in greenhouses, irrigation, and processing facilities that will support year-round production, value-added products, increase access to culturally significant produce. Host farm tours and pick-your-own produce options.
Our long-term goal is to establish a permanent, sustainable farm by purchasing 10-20 acres and reducing reliance on leased land. Land security is crucial to our long term goals and vision to expand our food production, and expand our markets to serve other communities outside the Portland area. We vision becoming a regional hub for culturally significant food production, supporting food equity and community empowerment.
We are seeking on-site housing for our family or farm staff to support daily farm operations and ensure timely crop management. Access to housing would improve efficiency, security, and our ability to respond to farm needs in real time. Ideally, housing would include basic living facilities such as kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping quarters.
We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all. We promote equity, respect, and cultural celebration through farm tours, educational workshops, and community events. We prioritize fair labor practices and collaborate with schools and community organizations to ensure the farm is a space where everyone feels valued and connected.
