Land Seeker Description

My fiancé and I, both in our mid-30s, dream of purchasing farmland to start a small, sustainable farm. With three dogs (two wire-haired pointing griffons and a mutt) in tow, we want to raise chickens, pigs, and goats to sell at local farmers markets. We also envision growing fruit to supply breweries for small-batch beers. While we don’t have formal farming experience, we are eager to learn. With over 20 years of combined experience in the beer industry, we understand the value of local, high-quality ingredients. I’ve had success with indoor plants and look forward to expanding my knowledge to crops. It’s been a lifelong goal to build a farm that supports our family while contributing to the community, and we believe that with the right crops and livestock, we can achieve that dream.

What features of the property are essential?

Water rights, on-site sewer, electricity, on-site private well, irrigation, pasture or woodland

Describe your farming experience

My experience with farming is rooted in my time as a pet sitter, where I cared for a variety of animals, including chickens. This hands-on experience gave me valuable insights into the needs of livestock. Additionally, I’ve had success growing tomatoes and nurturing indoor plants, which has sparked my interest in expanding my knowledge to larger-scale farming. Though I'm still learning, I am confident that these skills provide a solid foundation for my future in agriculture.

Are you currently farming?

No

What are your short term goals for the land

My short-term goal is to learn and successfully grow and maintain crops, while effectively managing the property. I aim to build a strong foundation in farming techniques that will support sustainable growth and self-sufficiency.

What are your long term goals

My long-term goal is to build a thriving, sustainable farm where I can raise livestock and cultivate crops to support my family and the local community. I hope to expand production, sell at farmers markets, and partner with breweries, creating a self-sufficient operation that grows alongside my knowledge and experience.

Describe your housing needs

I’m looking for a house that comfortably accommodates my family, with enough space to potentially operate a doggy daycare. The property should include at least half an acre of land to support our farming goals, allowing us to raise livestock, grow crops, and manage daily farm operations. The ideal home will provide a functional layout that meets both our personal needs and the requirements for running a small farm and doggy daycare.

What will you do as a farmer to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone on your farm and in your community?

As a queer POC I strive to provide an environment I would want. Somewhere safe and open for anyone to feel warm. I have been a huge advocate for mental health and I think it's important for a community to have people around to talk to about what's going on in their lives. Big or small.
