We have a 10 acre farm about 35 minutes southeast of Portland where we raise heritage cattle, which are rotationally grazed, and chickens for eggs. There is also an orchard, a berry patch and a vegetable garden plus two landscaped areas and an insectary. Retired from paid work, we are now looking to travel more and need help taking care of the animals and the farm. We have a lovely living situation to offer in exchange for 40 – 50 hours of work per month which will vary with the seasons and our travel schedule.
Our ideal person will be someone with a love for animals and experience in both vegetable and landscape horticulture as well as an eye for detail. In addition to caring for our farm activities there is about a 1/4 acre with irrigation available should one care to try their hand at farming. The housing option is best for a single person however two people could work. In addition, it is entirely possible to work off the farm albeit less than full time is preferred. No smoking is allowed on the farm as well as no marijuana cultivation. There is no opportunity for the farmworker to raise their own livestock – plenty on the property already.
Farming is hard work therefore this person must be able to lift 75 pound bales of hay and 50 pound chicken waterers as well as hoe, weed, harvest, shovel, etc. References would be great.
It should be noted that we have no plans to sell this farm in the foreseeable future.
