We will make available irrigated land for garden, hoop house, other projects as agreed upon. Manager and/or partner can pursue additional self-directed projects for outside income: have a market/CSA garden, raise small animals, cider-making, whatever seems appropriate for the land and his/her interests and is OK with owners. We provide use of some land by tenant at no cost, as part of this agreement.


Owner’s Short Term Vision for the Property

80 acre ranch in Azalea, OR, seeking on-site manager with or without partner to help make property thrive. Very rural location but close to I-5 in USDA Zone 8a. Long-term commitment highly desirable. Our goal is to have reliable person(s) who can mind the farm for days and weeks at a stretch if we need to leave. We anticipate the workload averaging about 35 hours a week during summer, and 25hr/wk during winter; more if you want to start some new projects. This opportunity can grow about as much as you'd like. First 6 months are probationary, paid as contract worker. For the right person we hope to switch to regular employment.

Duties: manage ranch, livestock, irrigation system; improve meat quality; improve pasture, improve water runoff erosion, maintain fences and driveway; orchard management, greenhouse work; gardening, weeding, weed whacking, mowing; handyman projects; forest management/firewood. Bonus points for small engine repair, skilled carpentry.

Handyman skills are essential. An interest in gardening/agrarian lifestyle is required. Strength (ability to lift 50 lbs and occasional 120lb bales) and good health are required, as well as the ability to start work early in the morning, work hard, with lifting, digging, operating chain saws, ATV, and other equipment. Health insurance required ASAP (Oregon Health Plan is excellent). Driver's license, vehicle, and insurance required. References and background check required. Low drama, reality-based personality essential. Need stable, progressive person interested in organic or best practices for long term. Willingness to learn essential. No illegal drugs, no tobacco. No heavy drinking. Prefer no children. Livestock- and people-friendly pets welcome, 2 dog max, no horses, no free-roaming cats. No dangerous dogs or other dangerous animals.


Owner’s Long Term Vision for the Property

A well-managed ranch/farm with pastures, forests, orchards, riparian areas in good health, supplying meat, eggs and produce to local community. This could be via CSA or local farmers market in Canyonville. Onsite manager could oversee several part-time workers.


Current Use

Current operations include a small herd of beef cattle on irrigated pasture, large chicken coop with egg sales, fruit orchard, large gardening areas, berries and vineyard.

0-7% grade, Southern exposure. Clay loam in uplands, sandy loam in bottoms. Over 20 acres irrigated with K Line system.

Besides the owners’ home, there is a pole barn, two large shops, greenhouse, a new poultry building, and a doublewide about to be replaced with stick-built.


Farm Equipment Available for Use, Sale or Lease

Other than basic landscaping and shop tools and an ATV, there are no tractors or other machinery. Owner has a sensitivity to diesel. We do have a cider press.

No, except for landowner preferences.
