Soil Type / Quality

Laurelwood silt loans

The soil classification in the Chehalem Mountains AVA is Laurelwood; composed of basalt base with ice age windblown sedimentary soils. The Laurelwood soil series consists of well drained and very deep soil formed from deep to moderately deep loess deposits over red clayey paleosol that is derived from residuum of basalt. These soils have high water holding capacity and provide good very deep rooting for winegrapes. They have a potential to yield high vine vigor.
