We have a 15 acre homestead 9 miles inland from Yachats. We are no longer able to farm at scale and as we continue to age in place, we are looking to share the land with someone who can care and benefit from it as we have.
About 1 acre has been used as a small organic market garden since 1974. The climate is more similar to the valley than the coast, with ample sunlight. There is a gravity feed water system that supports irrigation as well as grandfathered water rights to the Yachats River. There are two approximately 70 foot hoop houses, a (very) mature orchard, and deer fencing around the active area. Some care and updates are needed throughout. Much of the rest of the land is forested, but there is room to expand the production area and the farm has also supported goats and poultry. There is one outbuilding that could be used for processing and storage, or, with some work and investment, an ADU.
We would like to see the land be productive and support the growth and development of a new farmer. A lease arrangement will also help us keep up with the property and allow us to remain on the land as we age.
Our family would like to maintain access to the property even if we do not live there full time. We would like to see it continue to grow and thrive as a productive and sustainable small farm.
Currently used as a very small scale vegetable farm and residence, has been a market garden since 1974 and always farmed with organic practices.
Spring water to gravity feed; grandfathered rights to pump from Yachats River
Fertile soil, tested periodically and compost, lime, and other necessary amendments added.
One larger structure with water and electricity that could be used for storage or a shop, or converted to an ADU with the addition of a bathroom; one small shed with electricity used for starts, 2 long (approximately 70 feet) hoop houses.
Many general and garden tools of varying vintages
As one of the first commercial organic gardens on the Oregon Coast, we have worked hard to create a welcoming and inclusive community of sustainable farmers by sharing knowledge, learning, and resources widely and to all who were interested. We have been committed to affordable pricing of our produce to ensure all are able to access healthy and organically farmed food
