Corvus Landing Farm is hiring 1 or 2 crewmembers for the 2017 season. This will be a varied position giving you experience in many aspects of operating a small farm. Spring time will include greenhouse work, planting, soil preparation and amendment, weeding, and diverse aspects of plant and farm care. Harvests begin in late May and will fill more and more of your time as we head into summer. July and August are dominated by harvest, washing, and market and CSA prep (but we’ll squeeze in weeding and planting when we can). By fall, the harvests begin to back off and you will be involved in farm clean up and winterization tasks, as well as large harvests of storage crops.
Throughout the season, you will have the opportunity to help at our on site farm stand or farmers market booths. For someone with the right skills, we offer an extra day or two a week to help with woodlot and farm maintenance.
Our general harvest schedule is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 to 5. Market help or farm and woodlot maintenance would add extra days or times to that schedule (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and/or Saturdays).
Our season runs from April to November, but we can be flexible on starting and ending dates. Hours may be lower in the spring and fall, but we can refer you to a local organic landscaping company for possible extra hours if you desire.
This is a good job for a person or couple with a year or more of farming experience who wants to deepen their skills and work toward a farming career. Crewmembers will participate in a wide variety of farm tasks, giving you a range of farm experience. We are willing to spend time sharing our knowledge and systems, and we can help you learn how to run a successful small farm and connect you with other farmers in the region. We offer rustic camping accommodations on the farm, giving you full time exposure to seasonal changes and the farm’s rhythm.
Farm experience is not required for this position, and we will train the right person. Work can be repetitive and physically demanding, and we work outdoors in all conditions. But farming is also fun and rewarding, and you can’t beat the setting or the food. A positive attitude and open communication are a must.
You must have reliable transportation and a valid drivers license. You must either live within commuting distance or be prepared to camp on the farm.
Applicants should be:
Bonus skills and experience:
Housing opportunities in our area are limited. Applicants should already live within commuting distance, have housing lined up, or be prepared to camp on the farm. Partners, families, and pets will be considered on a case by case basis.
About the farm:
Now in its 8th season, Corvus Landing Farm is located in Neskowin, Oregon, 3 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. We grow 1.5 acres of delicious fresh vegetables for sale to the local community. We are currently working on renovating the 50 acre property we purchased 3 years ago and planting berries and fruit trees to expand our offerings.
We use all natural methods to preserve and protect the health of our land and our neighbors. We specialize in crops that do well in our cool coast climate, particularly greens, carrots, peas, potatoes, and much more. We also grow veggie starts for coastal gardens, including cool-season tomatoes, mixed vegetables, and over-wintering crops. We sell our vegetables locally through 2 farmers markets, a 70-member CSA, an on site farm stand, and to select local businesses.
